Chief Osborn as a pro-active leader in the Law Enforcement Community
has set the standard for excellence on the execution of this program.
The Suffern Police Department has been
serving this community for over 100 years.
During
this time we have worked at and developed positive relationships with all races and religions within our community. We have
always been a diverse community and I feel that we have met and will continue to meet the needs of all the members of our
community regardless of their diversity.
Our
police department is here to protect and serve all members of the community. They say that justice is blind when it comes
to people's ethnicity and resident status and that is true here is Suffern.
Last year Mayor Keegan approached me after a series of crimes were committed
by perpetrators who were undocumented, illegal residents in our community.
Attempted Rape, May, 2007: Young undocumented woman working in a store
was attacked and sexually assaulted by an undocumented illegal resident.
In the first 3 months of 2008 alone, we would have filed deportation proceedings on
approximately 9 illegal immigrants who have committed crimes ranging from DWI to Criminal Possession of a forged instrument
to gang assault.
Unfortunately,
some in the community have interpreted this program as something that it is not. This is a program to go after CRIMINALS,
nothing more, nothing less. The people that we are looking to file deportation proceedings on are CRIMINALS who are placing
all in our community at risk. These CRIMINALS should not be able to come back to Suffern and commit more crimes.

fields.
Sept. 11th:
The same above Undocumented male was released and arrested while burglarizing a local business.
