Sirs, I recently read, in the Journal News, an article about violent crime in general. It broke down crimes by localities.
I believe it said that 25% of the violent crimes in our area for the year 2007 were committed by illegal aliens. Theinteresting
thing was that there were only 4 violent crimes noted. Ergo, that translates into the fact that 25% of the violent crimeswere
committed by one {1} illegal alien. Is this really the huge problem you are making it out to be? We already have the correct
lawsexisting to take care of violent criminals. Our officers are doing their jobs well and still there was only 1 violent
criminal alien apprehended. I think we have other issues like speeding, drunk driving, etc. that deserve more attention then
287g which a small village like Suffern with an ample number of law enforcement officers should focus on. We cannot afford
it for one thing and until the Federal Govt. closes our borders, it's simply another case of smoke! and mirrors. I have
no fear walking down Lafayette Ave. at any time of day or night and I believe most people feel the same way. Why not focus
on the real issue, crime, and if done will take care of all problems associated with 287g. We cannot afford it, the county
jail won't accept the accused, and is it true that the village has already spent $70,000 for a retina ID machine when
we haven't even become a part of 287g yet? What comes first, the chicken or the egg? This is an issue that must be addressed
by Congress not Village Hall. Thank you, Jon How did you hear: Newspaper
