287(g) does not target the law-abiding people in our community, those we see in church, at PTA meetings, patronizing our Village merchants, raising children, participating in our youth activities including baseball, soccer, football, lacrosse, cheerleading, Girls Scouts, and Boy Scounts or coaching our children. It is meant to address the criminal offenders that perpetuate crime, amorality, and wrong doing against ALL of us.

REALITYCriminal aliens exploit the system every day, but they’re not above the law! Jurisdictions that implement 287g follow approved Federal guidelines and procedures.

MYTH – 287g exposes immigrants to increased victimization.

REALITY - Deporting convicted sexual predators & violent drug gang members can only improve public safety. Criminal aliens reside within "immigrant" communities, so their deportation reduces chances of victimization there.

Elected Officials Who  Oppose 287g? - Office holders who side with narrow special interest groups and oppose the 287g program specifically geared toward targeting sexual predators, drug gangs and terrorists risk public ridicule and angry voters.

Elected Officials Who Support 287g? - Those who take the time to learn about 287g and then act to implement it, will win public support and endorsements from Crime Victim’s Groups.

MYTH Detainees are treated inhumanely as they await transport.

•       REALITY - All medical facilities at detention centers owned or contracted by ICE are required to be compliant with health care standards from the American Correctional Association, the National Commission on Correctional Health Care, the Joint Commission, and the ICE National Detention Standards, which surpass industry standards in their stringency and commitment to detainee health and comfort. http://www.ice.gov/pi/detention_health_care.htm
